India’s benchmark had a good Tuesday. The Nifty 50 closed at 23,810.85. That’s up 1.58% and its fourth gain in a row, says Liquide. Consumer and financial stocks led. But 24,000 is just ahead. Traders are watching it closely. It was a strong day. Still, strong days can end badly. Now the chart.

Chart Notes
Two points tell the story. The index closed at 23,440.80 on 2 November. It jumped 370 points to 23,810.85 the next day. The green band, 23,500 to 23,700, is the support zone. The 23,700 line matters most. Above, the first resistance is 23,900. The red dashed line at 24,000 is a round number sellers love to defend. A 370-point day is big. It took the index back above 23,700. That’s why the level matters so much. If price falls back under it, the move looks like a bounce. Not a trend. What Moved the Market
Banks and consumer names led. Whalesbook says Bank Nifty gained on institutional buying and SBI’s strong profit. SBI’s own shares fell, though. Not every big name rose. FMCG added 3.65%. Realty added 2.33%. Power Grid lost 3.04%. Whalesbook calls 24,000 a psychological resistance level. The rupee is steady near 94.90 per dollar. Our USD/INR report says oil above $100 is still a risk.
The Overbought Warning
After four up days, the RSI is overbought. Traders may take profits. That doesn’t mean a crash. It means care. Our explainer on RSI and Stochastic shows how to read it. NSE Indices publishes the index data and method. It’s a good place to check what the Nifty holds.
How to Trade a Rally Like This
For the first time in several days, new buyers will have to deal with a difficult situation when they purchase near 23,900. Your stop loss will be very far away. You will only make 100 points as you move from 23,900 to 24,000. For those who are patient enough to wait, an entry near 23,700 would provide a much better opportunity. This provides little risk. You can place your stop loss below 23,500. When the market breaks through 24,000 and closes above that level for a full trading session, then a breakout trade can be taken. Always determine where you will exit prior to entering the position.
Watch Bank Nifty, as well. Bank stocks have a high weighting in the index. According to Liquide, support is at 55,300 and resistance is at 55,800. Typically, when banks are weak, the Nifty is weak. Look at both charts side-by-side. Don’t chase after a big green day unless you have a strategy in place.
Three Scenarios
Bullish: a close above 24,000 opens the road toward 24,200.
Bearish: a close below 23,700 puts 23,500 back in play.
Sideways trading from 23,700 to 23,900 prior to the US election results.
Short term, US election news and oil will set the mood.
The Reserve Bank of India has been stepping in to calm the rupee. Long term, a clean break above 24,000 would show buyers are back in charge. Asia is mixed. Our Hang Seng analysis shows another benchmark on the line. can the nifty get past 24,000? or will it be blocked by the wall? prepare yourself for either scenario. make sure your plans are easy to follow. be strict about how you operate. try not to make trades when there isn’t a good opportunity to do so.
