The base date for the DAX 30 is December 30, 1987, and from a base value of 1,000. The DAX price index followed the Börsen-Zeitung index, which historically extends back to 1959.

The DAX 30 is used worldwide as a leading index for the German economy and serves as the basis for more than 150,000 financial products. The selection of companies in the DAX index is based on the quantitative criteria of order book volume and free float market capitalization.
The reporting date for collecting data is the last trading day of the month for which the ranking list is created. The ranking list is created and published monthly by Deutsche Börse AG. The index composition of DAX is reviewed every September based on the Regular Exit and Regular Entry rules.
