Initially conceptualized as a trustless AI-based marketplace for data scientists, Cartesi metamorphosed into a Layer-2 platform for developing decentralized applications and smart contracts, with an additional advantage of solving the high fees and scalability issues present on the Ethereum blockchain. Cartesi’s concept for solving the congestion problems that generate high fees in Layer-1 blockchain networks was to use a side chain for the heavier computations and processes, then use the main chain to complete the tasks.
