Ethereum Foundation-Backed ZK Rollup Project Zircuit Launches Public Testnet

Zircuit, a new zero-knowledge (zk) rollup backed by Ethereum Foundation, has launched its public testnet. The Zircuit team has scheduled a multi-day event to celebrate the occasion, starting November 13th, where attendees will learn more about Zircuit and interact with the team. Zircuit, which is fully EVM compatible, supports wallets and decentralised applications (dApps) built on Ethereum. In addition, any dApp on Ethereum can deploy on Zircuit with minimal changes.

Leveraging ZK rollup for advancing L2 technology

The project is the recipient of grants awarded by Ethereum Foundation for Layer 2 research, signaling its strong foundational basis and growth potential. These grants came as a result of breakthrough research by Zircuit on rollup security tooling, rollup compression, and scaling cryptography. The team has authored and presented 12 papers, and its upcoming testnet brings out its successful use of research and new technology in creating an enabling L2 environment for developers.

“Our research on rollups led us to create an L2 scaling solution that is breaking new ground and paving the way for a new generation of rollups. It’s taking the existing technology further and easing use for both developers and dApp users,” said Dr. Jan Gorzny, Head of L2 Scaling at Zircuit.

Zircuit is offering developers a platform that they can use to test their dApps for efficiency before deploying on Ethereum. The company decomposes circuits into specialized parts and aggregating proofs, resulting in a higher level of efficiency and lower operating costs.

Also, the company employs a combination of zero-knowledge proofs and optimistic infrastructure to help developers get their dApps battle-hardened for Ethereum mainnet launch. One of the key focus areas is reducing gas fees and developing new compression algorithms to increase transaction speeds. Zircuit has built a platform that reduces the cost of transactions and has eased onboarding by designing a quick setup process for developers. Therefore, developers who want to experiment will find it quite easy to get started on Zircuit.

End users have not been left behind-Zircuit’s synthesis of rollup and ZK technology streamlines the user experience as well. In addition, Ethereum applications can seamlessly deploy onto Zircuit without learning a new programming language, ensuring that end users do not have to learn anything extra.
