The Fastest Blockchain? TON Conducts Successful Record-Breaking Test Run
The Open Network Foundation (TON Foundation) has announced that it recently conducted a live-streamed stress test on the TON blockchain, during which it proved that TON is the world’s fastest and most scalable public blockchain.
The TON testnet integrated 256 validators, and under heavy load, it split into 512 shards. In the end, the network achieved a speed of 104,715 Transactions Per Second (TPS). In test runs, the TON testnet was up against VISA, whose transaction speeds have been widely reported as the fastest in the world. In the end, TON far surpassed the 65,000 TPS record held by VISA.
The Foundation says that the results of this test has proven that the TON blockchain is capable of being the infrastructure layer for the Web3 ecosystem in Telegram. In addition, it says that the blockchain suits large enterprises seeking to create blockchain-based products and global decentralized networks focusing on leading the DeFi revolution.
TON says that despite the record-breaking results, this was just a stress test and that the blockchain is capable of transaction speeds far higher than what was recorded. This is in view of the fact that the test run only featured 256 validators, meaning that a higher number of validators would hit millions of TPS.
How the tests were conducted
To ensure transparency and reliability of the test results, the TON Foundation invited Certik, a global leader in Web3 smart contract audits, to certify the network’s stability and security, as well as verify network speeds. CertiK authenticated that the network’s architecture was set up per the requirements, ensuring that the settings and configurations of 256 validators were as per specified requirements.
In addition, Certik confirmed the uniformity of the software used by the nodes and that all the validators were operational. The performance test session deployed TON lite servers to obtain transaction counts at one-minute intervals, which enabled the team to derive the TPS speed.
