Sugar Gaming Studios, the innovative gaming studio with 20 years of experience and over 60 million players across its portfolio, today announced the official launch of Sugar Match, a fresh take on blockchain gaming that reimagines the match-3 genre for Web3. Think Candy Crush meets Web3, but with competitive PvP and skill-based earning. Following the studio’s successful $1M funding round, Sugar Match is now live on the Tezos Layer-2 Etherlink as the first of five games being developed, delivering on the company’s promise to revolutionize blockchain gaming with a fun-first approach that rewards loyal players through a unique, sustainable rewards model.
After an extensive closed beta period in January 2025 that saw over 10,000 players completing more than 1 million off-chain test games, Sugar Match represents a new paradigm in Web3 gaming, one that prioritizes exceptional gameplay while seamlessly integrating blockchain technology in a player-friendly manner.
“Sugar Match proves that Web3 games don’t need to feel like Web3 games to deliver on the promise of blockchain gaming,” said Nikolay Mitev, Co-Founder and CEO of Sugar Gaming Studios. “We’ve created a competitive, skill-based experience that just happens to integrate blockchain in a transparent, player-first way. Our goal has always been to create games that are fun first, Web3 second – bringing the match-3 mechanics players love into Web3 with a unique competitive spin.”
Sugar Match introduces a groundbreaking real-time PvPvP (Player vs Player vs Player) match-3 format that sets it apart from traditional mobile puzzle games. Three players compete simultaneously across five timed puzzle rounds using identical starting boards, with real-time scoring and strategic boosters that allow players to disrupt opponents, multiply points, or defend against incoming attacks. The highest-scoring player wins the pot, creating an engaging, competitive experience that rewards skill and strategy.
The game features a dual-token economy centered around gCNDY, an in-game currency earned through gameplay, and CNDY, Sugarverse’s tradable token now available on major exchanges including MEXC, IguanaDEX, and Uniswap. Players can seamlessly convert between currencies through the studio’s dedicated swap portal at swap.sugarverse.io, bridging the gap between gameplay and token utility.
“The launch of Sugar Match represents exactly what we hoped to see when Sugarverse announced their plans to build on Etherlink,” said Efe Kucuk, Head of Gaming at Trilitech. “The mark of mature infrastructure isn’t what it can do – it’s what it doesn’t make you worry about. Sugar Match players are focused entirely on the game itself, which means Etherlink is handling everything else seamlessly. That’s the standard Etherlink is built for.”
Sugar Match is now available for download on iOS and Android platforms. The CNDY token is actively trading on MEXC, IguanaDEX, and Uniswap, with the swap portal live at swap.sugarverse.io for seamless currency conversion.
