Polkadot SDK for Unity Set to Facilitate Web3 Game Development on Interoperable Blockchain

The gaming ecosystem of Polkadot has received a shot in the arm, with the announcement of a new Software Development Kit (SDK) developers can use to create dApps on the network. The built-in SDK represents a frictionless single entry point that connects the functionality of development software directly into the Polkadot ecosystem.

The initiative follows the recent verification of Polkadot Play by Unity, the world’s leading platform of tools for creators to build and grow real-time games, apps, and experiences across multiple platforms. The new Verified Polkadot SDK for Unity simplifies the development process for creators and developers seeking to create engaging web3 games on Polkadot.

Decentralized and run via open governance, Polkadot Play not only provides developers with the necessary tools and data but also offers a dedicated tech team to assist in game integration. This collaborative approach to onboarding is poised to significantly enrich Polkadot’s gaming dApp ecosystem.

With Polkadot having embraced decentralization through its OpenGov system, Polkadot Play achieves the same feat on the gaming side. As well as offering tooling for developers, it helps promising gaming projects access funding, bounties and active VCs operating in the ecosystem.

“Polkadot Play represents a monumental step forward in decentralizing blockchain-powered gaming,” stated Nicholas Douzinas, Co-founder of Polkadot-based gaming platform Ajuna. “By creating a hub focused on gaming, we showcase the potential in Polkadot, and provide a single point of entry for game developers to start building”.

In addition to technical support, Polkadot Play includes a business development component, connecting devs with potential partners and collaborators based on business opportunities. This feature is designed to foster a thriving community of developers, creators, and entrepreneurs, all working towards a common goal.

Polkadot Play, in collaboration with the Blockchain Game Alliance (BGA), will be introducing a Game Jam (hackathon) in 2024, inviting developers to build on the Polkadot SDK for Unity. Polkadot Play will continue driving adoption through periodic Game Jams going forward.

By leveraging the strengths of both Polkadot and Unity, Polkadot Play is poised to unlock exciting possibilities for devs and gamers alike, setting a new standard for what is possible in the world of blockchain gaming.

About Polkadot

Polkadot enables multiple blockchain networks to interoperate and share information seamlessly, empowering them to work together under the protection of shared security. Substrate is the primary blockchain SDK used by developers to create the parachains that make up the Polkadot network.
