io.net Collaborates with Filecoin to Expand Decentralised GPU Cloud Storage Infrastructure

io.net, the company building infrastructure for distributed cloud computing, has announced a partnership with the Filecoin community. The partnership will enable Filecoin SPs (storage providers) to have the opportunity to become io.net GPU suppliers, which will allow them to make the most of their hardware revenue and improve the efficiency of their infrastructure as a whole.

The initiative is part of io.net’s mission of developing cloud storage infrastructure built on distributed graphics processing units (GPUs). io.net brings together multiple GPU sources from different sources to a single platform to address the existing gaps in the capacity and efficiency of commercial GPU.

Harnessing the power of decentralised GPU storage

As part of its mission to foster community engagement, io.net has started onboarding Filecoin SPs in an effort to connect with the SPs and the ecosystem at large. The initiative has already onboarded more than 17,000 GPUs onto the platform, with1,500 of those belonging to Filecoin SPs. Storage Providers now have new opportunities to branch out from decentralised storage and explore advanced applications like machine learning (ML) thanks to this effort.

Filecoin is the biggest decentralised storage network in the world. It has a verified marketplace where users may store, request, and move data. By providing globally distributed storage at substantially lower cost, the Filecoin network eliminates financial barriers, which opens up its services to a wider audience. Furthermore, the fact that it is open source means that anybody, anywhere in the world can contribute.

According to io.net, its partnership with Filecoin is not just about increasing the crypto’s use or providing Storage Providers with alternate revenue sources. Rather, it also aims to strengthen the decentralised data economy, resulting in mutual benefits for users, as well as io.net and Filecoin SPs.

Instead of underutilising their hardware capacity, the partnership gives storage providers a chance to increase the return on investment (ROI) of their hardware expenditures by expanding their use cases and income streams.  A rise in web2-driven demand through Filecoin’s SPs by io.net will stimulate new investment in the Filecoin economy. In turn, this will allow Filecoin to build its capacity to support better the io.net community’s growing list of datasets and distribution offerings.
