Ambire Launches First Extension Wallet with Ethereum Pectra Support

    Summary:
  • Ambire Wallet is an open-source, self-custodial wallet supporting Smart Accounts on Ethereum and EVM networks.

Sofia, Bulgaria, May 8, 2025 — Ambire, a pioneer in self-custodial wallets, has officially launched the Ambire Extension, a browser-based wallet that natively supports Ethereum’s upcoming EIP-7702. The extension allows for payment of gas fees in stablecoins and other tokens, removes all token approvals, and brings smart account functionality with a straightforward UX to existing user accounts, unlocking portable, programmable, and cost-efficient self-custody without requiring account migration.

Following nearly a year of private testing and refinement based on user feedback, the Ambire Extension is now publicly available with no invite codes for Chrome. By combining the benefits of smart account functionality with traditional EOAs (externally owned accounts), the extension enables users to retain their existing addresses while unlocking new features like transaction batching, gas abstraction, and programmable security.

“EIP-7702 is an inflection point for our industry: it lets us bring smart account capabilities directly to existing wallets without friction,” said Ivo Georgiev, CEO of Ambire. “With the extension, we’ve built an architecture where your EOA is just as powerful as a smart account—secure, programmable, and multi-chain by design to make self-custody safer, and genuinely more usable.”

Ethereum’s Pectra upgrade introduces EIP-7702, a protocol evolution that allows EOAs to operate like smart accounts without the need for complex migration or loss of legacy compatibility. Ambire’s latest innovation brings together powerful smart wallet capabilities with a frictionless UX, built for speed, security, and composability:

  • Smart Features on EOAs: Users can upgrade existing EOAs with programmable logic, enhanced transaction safety, and streamlined DeFi interactions—all without needing to migrate to a new wallet.
  • Cross-Chain by Default: A unified experience across chains with a single address, native gas abstraction, and built-in swap and bridge infrastructure powered by Li.Fi and Socket.
  • Security-First Architecture: Offers transaction simulation across all chains, scam app detection, limited token approvals, an open-source codebase, and independent audits to ensure robust security.
  • Resilient Performance and Privacy: Built without reliance on third-party APIs, the extension delivers high availability and privacy—even during critical service outages like the recent AWS downtime.
  • All-in-One Dashboard: Instantly shows asset balances and dApps across networks—no need for manual chain switching.
  • Enables AI agents: account programmability enables AI agents to act upon your account in the future to enhance your portfolio yield, save your DeFi positions, claim airdrops automatically and more.

Web3 users have long faced a trade-off between ease of use and advanced wallet functionality. Ambire’s support for EIP-7702 through its extension delivers a unified wallet experience, offering both power and simplicity for DeFi users, memecoin traders, and onchain explorers alike.
