Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC) stock has seen a lot of selling in early August 2026. Its stock has dropped more than 7% over five sessions, trading close to ₹395. What's more, and particularly relevant for a life insurer, the Value of New Business (VNB) margin improved significantly, reaching 21.2% compared to 17.6% the year before. This happened as the company shifted towards more profitable non-participating products. These products now constitute over half of the VNB. As of March 2026, LIC's embedded value, a measure of its intrinsic worth, was ₹7.89 lakh crore. In June 2026, LIC also completed its first-ever 1:1 bonus issue, intended in part to enhance liquidity in anticipation of further stake sales.
